#InnovandoLaJusticia

The first edition of the International Justice Innovation Forum was held virtually in November 2020 under three thematic axes: simplification of justice, modernization of justice, and digital justice. The Forum was created to ensure that technology and innovations in the field of justice promote the reduction of gaps, asymmetries, and barriers to access justice for different sectors of the population while allowing, empathizing, and facilitating the protection of the rights of people who access justice processes.

This international space for exchange was designed in the midst of a global health emergency, generated by the COVID-19 virus, which abruptly and radically changed the way justice is understood and experienced around the world.
As a product of these rapidly changing conditions, the International Forum became the ideal space to face questions about justice in a scenario that examined the usual conditions and ways of doing justice. Today, it is undeniable that to innovate in the matter, it is vital to move towards a digital model that allows the use of new technologies to facilitate access and strengthen the criminal justice systems in the face of the new post-crisis conditions around the globe.

This is why the second edition of the Forum comes under the premise that justice must urgently evolve, transform and adapt to new forms and mechanisms of doing justice, not always judicial. Understanding these new forms, and the mechanisms or tools that are used will allow the consolidation of adequate justice systems, with a human rights approach, a gender perspective, open and sustainable.
This second edition is built under the following thematic lines:

A. Improvement and Transformation.

Justice and its processes are constantly evolving. As a result of this shift along the technological revolution that we live through every day, more and better tools are in constant development that allow different and more complete approaches that facilitate and improve the work in the matter. The civic and technological innovation foreseen in this stage implies accepting the new, executing it, and getting used to eventually achieving improvements and optimizations. It seeks to point out what’s being carried out in a differentiated way, the optimization of processes and a general improvement of its management.

B. Impact and Scope.

The evolution and transformations in matters of justice can potentially affect the life and human rights of the population. Understanding the effects that these civic and technological innovations have on the daily life of citizens makes the institutions of the criminal justice system more accountable and fosters mechanisms that generate better results. An innovative administration of justice guarantees a true administration of the same.

C. Importance and Implications.

Innovations, and especially technological changes, within justice processes may not be beneficial for all sectors of society or be relevant for different social contexts. For this reason, it is important to speak of a sustainable justice that allows evaluating the relevance, acceptance, and significance of technological innovations and changes. Talking about inclusion and intersectionality will allow the importance and implications of these transformations to permeate the daily life of citizens, particularly of the population groups that face greater barriers to accessing justice, and within the processes practiced by those responsible for administering justice.
